2020 a year in review
It has been a year of great challenge for ASU dojos, Aikido in the world, and for society as a whole. ASU began 2020 loaded with optimism, fresh from an invigorating week of training at Winter Intensive in Washington, D.C. in January and a wonderful Aiki Shrine Session in Myakka City, FL, in February. Over the course of 2019 and 2020, the ASU Grant Committee awarded over 25 grants helping our members to attend these events. Spirits were high! Enter March 2020. Hopeful dreams turned to fearful change. In late 2020, ASU suffered the loss of Patty Saotome Sensei. Her impact on the ASU organization cannot be overstated. In her memory, we are designing a permanent memorial garden on the Aiki Shrine grounds. In addition, the ASU vision continues to focus on projects, grants, seminars, supporting our membership and bringing up a new generation of leaders. The Aiki Shrine Dojo in Florida is a haven for all ASU students. Due to the generosity of our members, the property will soon break ground to raise a new torii gate.
These visions and projects are dependent on you. One-time donations and recurring monthly gifts contribute significantly to the continued flux of energy through our organization. And there are so many more projects that await fulfillment–projects which serve you Aikido today and for the future.
If you are already a supporter or have worked in some way to sustain the Aiki Shrine or Saotome Sensei’s life work, your service is appreciated! If you can contribute or encourage financial support of the ASU’s vision, check out the variety of ways you can make a difference:

Top Off Your ASU Dues
Add an additional amount to your annual ASU dues. Designate your donation to go to the ASU now when you pay your regular yearly dues.
Make a Dojo-wide Contribution
ASU recognizes that many dojos are struggling at this time. However, if the health of your dojo is secure, consider a donation from the entire dojo. In 2021, contributor plaques will be displayed at the Aiki Shrine, and you will receive a frameable certificate of appreciation to hang in your dojo.
Annual Timed Contributions
Dedicate a date to make a recurring scheduled contribution. We can walk you through any step of this process and remind you when your scheduled draft date is near as needed.
Designate the ASU as a beneficiary recipient of an amount or percentage from your estate or will. This kind of generous gift will establish a path for all those who will follow; it will leave a dignified legacy of devotion and inspiration. Please view these Estate giving forms to get started, and thank you for considering this kind of substantial gift.
Corporate or Foundation Giving
If you are a business owner or member of a charitable foundation that designates annual contributions to non-profits, you can direct a percentage of your annual giving to the ASU, a 501c3.

May 2021 bring ample relief from enduring hardship, and may Saotome Sensei and O-Senseis’ message of universal peace resound strongly in our hearts and minds.
The Mission of Aikido Schools of Ueshiba is to promote the message and vision of aikido as transmitted by Morihei Ueshiba O Sensei to Mitsugi Saotome Shihan. To extend human potential, Leadership skills, efforts and dissemination of harmonious interaction, and spread peace in the world!
The Aikido Schools of Ueshiba (ASU) was founded as the membership organization that affiliates all of the Aikido dojos under the instruction of Saotome Shihan and his students. It is currently established as a 501(c)(3) charitable organization. The name of the organization reflects a commitment to the vision of O-Sensei, and not the cultivation of a style or territory. ASU is affiliated with Aikido World Headquarters in Tokyo, Japan.
