Founded 1989 - Aikido Eastside is an internationally known training center for the Japanese martial art of Aikido. A resource for the whole community of Aikido practitioners, our school offers regular seminars, workshops, and intensives designed to provide top quality training to Aikido practitioners regionally, nationally and even internationally with specialized focus areas which might not normally be available at their own dojos or nearby. Many of our events are specifically geared towards instructors wishing to work with other advanced practitioners to take their skills to a higher level. Aikido practitioners of all levels have come from all over the US as well as Canada, Australia, the United Kingdom, Spain, Mexico, and Finland to attend seminars at Aikido Eastside. We conduct seminars on Traditional Aikido, Aikido weapons work, multiple attackers practice, internal power development, Daito Ryu Aikijutsu, Karate, and Systema. All of these seminars are open to the Aikido community regardless of style or affiliation. Additionally, we offer daily Aikido classes for adults for children providing Mind, Body, Spirit integration as well as effective self defense. Aikido focuses on center to center connection and strives to allow one to defend without the necessity of seriously harming the attacker. The was art developed in the mid 20th century as a gift to all mankind by Master Morihei Ueshiba, whom practitioners call "O Sensei" or revered teacher.
Chief Instructor: George S Ledyard, Aikido 7th Dan and direct student of Mitsugi Saotome Shihan. Started Aikido in the newly founded Aikido Shobukan Dojo under Saotome Shihan in 1977. Assistant Chief Instructor: Josh Drachman, Aikido 6th Dan Trained at Hombu Dojo in Tokyo and extensively with Saotome Shihan here in the US. Both teachers were awarded Ueshiba Juku status signifying the direct line of transmission from the Aikido Founder, through Saotome Shihan to their direct students. Both teachers conduct seminars nationally and internationally.
Aikido Eastside was founded by George Ledyard Sensei in 1989. In 2019 we are celebrating our 30 year anniversary.
Adult classes for all levels and Children's classes starting at age 7 years. Along with Aikido we offer classes on Karate with Josh Drachman Sensei, Daito Ryu Aikijujutsu (study group under Howard Popkin Sensei's supervision), and internal power development (as taught by Dan Harden). We offer a series of seminars with many of the finest teachers of national and international repute.
