The Dojo of Nashville is dedicated to teaching and perpetuating the fundamental philosophy and disciplines of modern budo (martial training) through the study of aikido. Our goal is to pass on classical martial training from one generation to another. We strive to maintain the art and traditions while applying its principles to modern day combative strategies. Our Aikido classes are led by Steve Matthews, Godan and Erwin Ricafort, Yondan. The Dojo of Nashville is where students of all ages train in a safe and friendly environment. Youth classes are for ages 7-12. Adults start at 13 years and up.

STEVE MATTHEWS, Godan, began training in Aikido in 1993 under Tom and Mary McIntire of Nashville Aikikai. He travels frequently to Aikido seminars and also studies under Mitsugi Saotome Sensei. His enthusiasm in martial arts has also led him to study other arts such as Tae Kwon Do and Small Circle Jiujutsu. Matthews Sensei is married and is a Registered Land Surveyor. ERWIN RICAFORT, Yondon, began his budo training in 1982. His martial arts background includes Tae Kwon Do and Shotokan Karate. In 1991 he began training in Aikido under Kevin Sparkman of Bushin Dojo. In 2005 he has also began studying Tenshin Shoden Katori Shinto Ryu under Phil Relnick. Ricafort Sensei often to attends Aikido seminars and continues training with Mitsugi Saotome. He enjoys studying other various combat related arts expanding his knowledge in weapons and empty hand techniques. He is a dentist in Murfreesboro, TN.

We offer adult beginner classes, regular adult classes, and you classes for ages 7yo to 13yo. Saturday classes emphasize weapons.
